Abstract
The tradition of character sketches in literature originated in Greece. It started with Geoffrey Chaucer in English, and in Urdu literature, Mirza Farhatullah Baig started this tradition. Punjabi literature started in 1960 with Gorbaksh Singh and Balwant Gorki. In the Punjabi character too sketches tradition, famous authors are Rafiq Dogar, Anwar Ali, Ghulam Hussain Sajid, Dr. Younis Butt, Rahi Gapol, Dr. Amjad Ali Bhatti, and Sultan Kharolvi, etc. are famous names. There is a deep mellowness in these authors' character sketches. In these sketches, different aspects of several personalities have been discussed satirically. In this article, different types of satirical elements in these sketches have been presented with examples.
