Abstract

This article is about theimpact and influence of Sufi masters on the people of the Subcontinent. The Sufis played a vital role in spreading the teachings of islam in the Subcontinent. Therefore, for the larger public, the Sufi(saint, pir, Shaykh, murshid) was a source of religious authority and charismatic power. In this context, access to the personality and teachings of a Sufi shaykh was of significant interest to a wider populace. A lot of books comprising the teachings and preaching of Sufis were written. Some important examples of influence and impact of Sufis are being discussed in this article.
