Abstract

The study of the types of difficulties in the Qur'an(مشکل القرآن ) is a crucial topic within the subjects of Quranic sciences. This is because it is through this study that the reasons for the challenges in Quranic verses and the knowledge of their origins are obtained. Various types of difficulties in the Qur'an are mentioned in the books of Quranic sciences. This article specifically aims to explore the types of difficulties in the Qur'an with the help of questions posed by the noble companions and their interpretations. The article begins with a linguistic and terminological definition of the science of difficulties in the Qur'an, as well as the differences among scholars regarding its scope and the determination of the predominant view within this series. Following this, the main subject of the article is discussed, and the categorization of interpretive questions posed by the transmitted companions in the books of hadith is presented. This categorization helps determine the nature and types of difficulties related to the companions' interpretive questions about the difficult aspects of the Qur'an. Consequently, the importance of the companions' interpretive questions becomes evident, and insights from the Prophetic methodology are also understood in resolving the difficulties of the Qur'an. Alongside this, familiarity with the various types of difficulties in the Qur'an during the era of Prophethood is established. Towards the end of the article, an analysis of selected questions and the answers of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is conducted in the light of the principles of interpretation. Possible avenues for further work on this topic are also highlighted.
