Abstract

The noted Persian quatrain writer Omer Khayyam was born in Nishapur, He was not only great mathematician and astronomer but also a poet of the first rank. He chooses the concise but comprehensive genre of quatrain for his spontaneous metrical outflow of feelings. His work was appreciated by the European scholar more then Persian ones. The credit goes to the Fitz Gerald who introduced Omer Khayyam Throughout the Europe. The Urdu literature specifically are replete with different translated versions of Rubayyat-e-Khayyam. Some of them have been directly translated from Persian literacy treasure while most of them are based on Fitz Gerald translated Persian. This article consists of comparison Urdu poetic translation of Rubayyat-e-Khayyam. It is also concluded that poetic translation, specially of a poet of Khayyam Stature and complex style, is ongoing process; and study of previous translations could enlighten better methods and expression for new translations.
