Abstract

Published in 2018, An American Marriage by Jones has received the acclaim around the globe. The present study aims at finding out the factors which lead to marriage failure between Celestial and Roy. An American Marriage is a valuable source of material for those who are interested in finding out the causes of marriage failure in the US society. The study’s exploration of the factors that contribute to the breakdown of intimate relationships will provide important insights into the dynamics of modern relationships in the contemporary era. The study describes these factors with a minute description of the characters of the protagonists. Just an incident, Roy’s imprisonment, and starts the move to marriage failure for the spouses. Roy’s absence from the home becomes a major incentive for Celestial’s attention to Andre. Various reasons are described including the impact of Roy’s wrongful conviction, difference in goals and aspirations, infidelity and familial pressures. The study ends with an insightful perception into marriages in the American society.
