Abstract

Lakes and waterfalls are an essential element of some of the world's most popular tourism destinations.The lakes and waterfalls of Azad Jammu and Kashmir have long been a prominent destination for recreational and tourism activities, however, studies on the role of lakes for tourism are limited. The impact of tourism on the lake environment is mainly related to the number of visitors, the type of activities they do and the nature of the lake environment itself. Around the world, tourism is being seen as a viable source of economic growth. Tourism in Azad Kashmir can be further boosted if the stakeholders try and provide supporting infrastructure in the lake areas, knowing that the chances of a corresponding increase in tourist traffic to the lake tourist destinations of the state are enhanced. This article tries to explore the lakes and waterfalls of Azad Kashmir which can play vital role to boost the tourism activities in Azad Kashmir.
