Abstract

This paper deals with the elements of conflicts between eastern and western culture and civilization in dramas of prominent playwright Ashfaq Ahmad. Ashfaq Ahmad is an all-round (multi-dimensional) personality of Urdu literature, who made his unique identity as a story writer as well. He was also a columnist, writer, editor and playwright. He made an exceptional place by the name of “Talqeen Shah” broadcasted from radio Pakistan. He is one of early playwrights of Pakistan Television. In his plays, he has described the confusions and complexities arising from social problems. (He informs about the external and internal conditions of man).  (or) He reflects over subjective and objective aspects of society including inner and outer conditions of man through his writings. It has been discussed that he has shown elements of Pakistani culture in his Dramas. He loves eastern civilization. That is why, because he realized that western civilization has in slaved our new generation. To him even today, our new generation is under its influence. Somewhere in writings of Ashfaq Ahmad, the negative aspects can be seen that lead to conflict. The elements of confliction in eastern and western civilizations are shown in the plays of Ashfaq Ahmad. This conflict is also seen regarding some other aspects like language, co-education, women’s freedom and religion. Ashfaq Ahmad has shown this confliction in his plays and features.
