Abstract
The istilaah is an Arabic word. According to well-known dictionaries, when a word is used in a specific meaning or concept instead of its literal meaning, it is called a term. This term-making process is performed by people of a particular art or class, and later it begins to gain accreditation status in the public. The unit of concept is of fundamental importance in terminology. The terms are divided into singular, compound, syntactic and derivative types. Terms promote brevity rather than long expression in literature, which saves paper, ink, author's time and even the reader's time. Terminology promotes language. New words and techniques are added to the language. This whole process of terminology is carried out according to the principles laid down by the scholars of art and rhetoric. Terminology arises from the womb of translation. History has shown that Muslim scholars have translated the terms of various sciences into Urdu through translation. However, this process of terminology in Urdu language got better with the arrival of British in the subcontinent.
