Abstract

Pakistan's South Punjab is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. From the earliest times, this region has its own unique identity in culture, civilization and customs. South Punjab borders Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The customs and traditions of the three are prevalent in South Punjab. According to Allah's command, "Man is the best creation of Allah." Man's Need Marriage is an important need in life which fulfills the family. It is not only the fulfillment of sexual desire but also the establishment of a peaceful society. In the Holy Qur'an, Allah Almighty has declared the life of the Holy Prophet as the best role model for humanity. The teachings of Islam are natural and universal. They are suitable Imitation for human beings from the first day to the last day. Islam gave woman the high status of mother, sister, daughter and wife. Islam abolished false and ignorant rituals and forbade sexual exploitation. Islam gave a formal system of marriage for women. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has declared marriage as his Sunnah and has made it simple but today marriage in South Punjab has been made very expensive and difficult due to various un-Islamic customs and traditions. It has not only made it difficult but also destroyed the social, economic and religious life of the Muslims.   In these un-Islamic rituals, the stars are mingled, engaged. Mahindi, Dholak, Da'wah before marriage, Navendra, music and singing, Mehr, Rukhasty and rituals, Vatta Satta, Vani, marriage to Qur'an, etc. This paper will review the prevailing marriage customs in South Punjab in the light of Islamic teachings.
