Abstract

Stylistics has long been known as the linguistic study of texts.The latest definition of Stylistics, however is updated to the study of not only the linguistic components of a text but also as to how the words convey the meanings.Foregrounding is one of the major concepts associated with Stylistics.Foregrounding is actually the technique, a writer or a poet implies to consciously distort the normal language patterns so as to draw readers'attention and evolve the "style" particular to him.The long poem 'Masjid e Qartaba by Iqbal is an all time favourite of Urdu critics and now stylisticians.In this paper,I've tried to get at how Iqbal's style evolves out of making and breaking the norms of language patterns.In other words,how he has implied the linguistic parallelism and linguistic deviation so as to make it an all time master-piece of Urdu poetry .
