INVESTIGATING THE STATUS OF READING TREND IN PUBLIC SECTOR UNIVERSITY'S LIBRARIES IN PUNJAB

Abstract

Educational institutes play important role in society by preparing the well knowledge, well trained and well skilled human products. Especially libraries considered hub in educational institutes for developing student’s reading habits and skilled workshops for achieving their educational goals as well for making them successful in their professional lives. Librarian and student’s interaction increase the motivation and encourages the students to attend the library for reading the books, searching research material or in adopting other skill program by using library resources. To know the reading trend of students in public university’s libraries in Punjab Pakistan our objectives was, to explore the Student’s behavior towards library use, to find out the students reading habit by using internet at library, to describe the role of library resources to facilitate students. Key findings of this study are hilarious about reading habits in library and using library resources for skills developments. Just few male students responded that they visit library for reading only and not sure about internet usage or skills learning by using resources at university library but female student’s not sure even book reading in library and other findings similar to male students. Results are not satisfactory about readings habit and skills development in public university’s libraries in Punjab Pakistan.
