Abstract
Ahmed Faraz is one of the great poets of modern era. His real name was Syed Ahmed Shah. His first pen name was Sharar kohati but later on replaced by Faraz. The salient feature of his poetry is that he felt intensely all the trends, circumstances and events of his age, like creation of Pakistan, Pak-India war of 1965 and 1971, the political turmoil in Bengal, and martyrdom of political stalwarts i.e. Binazir Bhotto and Liaqat Ali Khan etc and all the martial laws implemented in the country.Faraz expressed all these ups and downs occurring in the political arena of the country in his poetry in a very befitting manner. He didn’t care for the consequences of what he was putting in to black and white. Ahmad Faraz has always beautifully portrayed the conditions, events and trends of his time and admired the things which he found to be worth following while on the contrary he was a strong critic of things which he deemed detrimental for the society, in this regard Ahmad Faraz played a pivotal part in the evolution of a balanced and pleasant society which enhances the significance of his poetry a step further. This article covers Faraz’s consciousness of his time and evaluates as to how far Faraz has reflected the situations, events and dominant trends in his poetry.
