Abstract

Abdullah Hussain is considered one of the most prominent novelists of the Urdu literature. He has beautifully presented the political and social life of India and Pakistan in his novels. His novel "Baagh" is an important addition to the Urdu resistance literature. Although the symbolic value of the novel is undeniable but he has effectively presented the freedom movement of occupied Kashmir through his protagonist Asad. Though the freedom movement view is presented briefly but excellently by him.

Asad unwillingly goes to Kashmir on spying mission but when he watches the occupied Indian forces atrocities, he admits the greatness of the Kashmiries who are not willing to yield. Abdullah Hussain has tremendously presented all these issues in his peculiar style in "Baagh". The political and social circumstances of the Indian Occupied and Azad Kashmir, the guerilla war by Kashmiries against Indian forces in occupied Kashmir, the massacre of Kashmiries, their kidnappings and disappearings make "Baagh"a historical, memorable and an effective novel.
