Abstract
Religious education has historically played a central role in shaping individual character and societal values. However, in contemporary times, there is a noticeable trend of distancing from formal religious learning, especially among the younger generations. This study aims to analyze the underlying causes of this phenomenon through a comprehensive examination of social, economic, cultural, and institutional factors. Key contributing elements include the increasing influence of secular education, urbanization, peer pressure, lack of family guidance, misconceptions about religious teachings, and limited access to qualified religious educators. The study also explores the role of media, technological distractions, and modern lifestyle choices in diverting attention away from religious education. By identifying and critically evaluating these causes, the research provides insights into strategies for promoting the relevance and integration of religious education in modern society. This analytical approach serves as a foundation for policymakers, educators, and religious institutions seeking to address the decline in religious engagement and enhance the holistic development of individuals.
