Abstract

This research critically evaluates the role of Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP) in shaping Pakistan’s religious and political landscape. Despite being a representative of the Shia minority, ITP has played a significant role in fostering religious and political harmony and promoting Islamic principles within the broader society. The party has been contributory in forming political and religious alliances, working closely with other factions to achieve its religious and political goals. A key element of this study is the party's engagement with the Council of Islamic Ideology, where it actively contributes to discussions that aim to ensure policies align with Islamic values. Additionally, the article explores the 22 points of Islamic scholars and how ITP has utilized these principles to advocate for unity and socio-political reforms. Although sectarianism and political extremism have historically been deeply rooted in Pakistan, ITP has been successful in navigating these challenges by promoting a coalition strategy that emphasizes inclusivity and Islamic unity. This study emphasizes how ITP, through its alliances and engagement in both religious and political spheres, has managed to achieve notable success in advancing its objectives, despite representing a minority community.
