Abstract
Jacques Lacan is widely regarded as the most influential figure in psychology after Sigmund Freud. Building upon the foundational work of Freud and Saussure, Lacan advanced psychoanalytical theory. Notably, he introduced the concept of the Mirror Stage and delineated three principal registers of the human psyche: the Imaginary, the Symbolic, and the Real. Additionally, Lacan redefined the concepts of Need, Demand, and Desire, positing that Need pertains to biological aspects of existence, Demand relates to the fulfillment of loss, and Desire is associated with the unattainable Real. This article aims to analyze the protagonist of the Urdu novel "Dasht-e-Soos" by Jamila Hashmi through the lens of Lacanian theory. Specifically, it endeavors to conduct a psychoanalysis of the central character, Hussain Bin Mansoor Hallaj, utilizing Lacan's theoretical framework.
