Abstract

This study delves into the characters and locations depicted in Mirza Hameed Baig's renowned literary work, "Anarkali." The novel, set against the historical backdrop of the Mughal era, intricately weaves a narrative that blends fiction with reality, offering a unique perspective on the legendary tale of Anarkali. Through a detailed analysis of the characters, including the enigmatic Anarkali, Emperor Akbar, Prince Salim, and other key figures, the study explores the complex interpersonal dynamics, the socio-political environment of the time, and the influence of these elements on the unfolding of the story. Additionally, the study examines the significant locations that serve as the novel's setting, such as the royal palaces, markets, and the historical sites of Lahore, providing insights into how these places contribute to the atmosphere and authenticity of the narrative. This analysis aims to shed light on the historical and cultural significance of the characters and places in "Anarkali," highlighting the novel's contribution to Urdu literature and its portrayal of Mughal history.
