Abstract
The 19th century holds significant importance in the context of Urdu travelogue writing. This era marked the beginning of Urdu travel literature with Yusuf Khan Kambalposh's travelogue "Ajaibaat-e-Farang." Following this, a large number of travelogues were written. During that period, travel facilities were limited, and most international journeys were made by sea. People had very little knowledge about the world, and travel writers played a crucial role in bringing this information to readers. A key feature of these travelogues is the sense of wonder and curiosity, and they adopted an informative style. The travel writers provided detailed descriptions of the culture and society of the regions they visited. Important travel writers of this era, including Yusuf Khan Kambalposh, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Maulana Muhammad Hussain Azad, Maulana Shibli Nomani, and Maulana Hakim Syed Abdul Hai, have been reviewed in this study for their depiction of culture and society in their travelogues.
