Abstract

This article intends to discuss the concept of appointments of officials in the golden era of Rashidun Caliphate. The Companions were the trustees of the Prophet's message.  The collective policies that were made regarding the affairs of the state during the era of the Caliphs, were actually formed according to the circumstances in the light of the Prophet's teachings. Because the Companions were known for their righteousness, virtue and morality. Therefore, nothing of their words can be against the teachings of the Prophet. The Holy Prophet ordered the Muslim Ummah to hold fast to His Sunnah (Tariqah) and the Sunnah of His Caliphs who are on the righteous and straight path, and hold fast to it firmly. According to the Rashidun Caliphs, government officials and the ruling classes were the representative or the protectors of Allah and Muslims, which should be entrusted to honest and just people, and no one has the right to dispose of this trust in an arbitrary way or for selfish purposes. The Rashidun Caliphs always considered themselves accountable to the Ummah regarding their responsibilities, their doors were open to everyone and they used to walk among the people in the bazaars without any bodyguards. The public had the freedom to criticize and account for their appropriateness and authority, therefore, if a precedent for a matter is not found in the Sunnah, then it can be seen in the Sunnah of the Caliphs.
