Abstract

Whenever the human spirit seeks expression, it turns to dream or images, and creative language relies on at least two of the four fundamental elements: simile, metaphor, symbol, and image. Imagery plays a vital role in creative expression, particularly from a psychological and simplicity perspective. Just as a painter selects colors to craft a visual masterpiece, a poet chooses words to create a vivid landscape. From this perspective, the importance of imagery cannot be overstated from an aesthetic standpoint. This article aims to address the critical hesitation in Urdu criticism regarding imagery   and provide a comprehensive definition of  imagery through examination of dictionaries and sayings. The importance of imagery in poetic literature cannot be denied in any way. In Urdu criticism, the pictorial aspect of imagery has been emphasized, but on the other hand, its emotional or sensory element has been neglected.
