Abstract

Masood Hussain  Khan is a learned philologist, distinguished critic, prominent researcher and eminent historian of Urdu Literature. Due to his strong command on Deccani literature and language, Deccani studies is considered to be his specialty. Along with comparative and Diachronic linguistics, he has focused his studies on various subjects of linguistics, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, stylistics, text editing, lexicography, prosody, rhythm, and intonation. His exceptional achievements in these fields make him a prominent figure in the field of linguistics. Although Masood Hussain Khan has a long history of literary contributions but his recent linguistic achievements are more comprehensive and vivid. These achievements play an important role in giving Urdu Linguistics a special identity and  direction.HIS  efforts in Urdu Linguistics are impressive because of profound intelligence, bold research and convincing writing style. In modern times, linguistics is considered a science. Masood Hussain Khan's research work, "Muqaddama Tareekh Zaban-e-Urdu" (Introduction to the History of Urdu Language) has gained international recognition. Beyond doubt, this is the first book of its kind in linguistic research which has opened many new doors and vistas for linguistic scholars and researchers.
