Abstract

This essay explores the concept of individual identity in the symbolic fiction of Rasheed Amjad, a prominent Urdu short story writer known for his innovative style. While acknowledging the social nature of humanity, the essay argues that each person possesses a unique internal essence that shapes their identity. This internal self clashes with external forces such as societal pressures and existential questions, creating a complex struggle for self-definition. Rashid Amjad's symbolic narratives provide a rich tapestry for examining this internal vs. external conflict. Readers encounter characters grappling with the dissonance between their inner desires and the expectations of their social circles. Additionally, the influence of Sufism, a mystical Islamic tradition, adds another layer of complexity, posing profound questions about our place in the universe.

Through an analysis of Rashid Amjad's fictional characters, the essay will identify the internal elements that contribute to identity, such as psychology, habits, and emotions. Furthermore, it will examine the external forces that shape individuals, including social norms, regional influences, and broader societal and global concerns.
